Debris flow, Bondo 2017, restoration project

Canton of Grison, Switzerland

Landfill sites Palü and Lüder. Geotechnical engineering.

Project

Following the landslide at Piz Cengalo at the end of August 2017, almost 700,000 m3 of scree material flowed through the Bondasca Valley into the valley floor in several debris’ flows. This has led to extensive mudslides and the evacuation of the village of Bondo. As part of the repair work, the material was dredged using large excavators and dumpers and deposited on three landfills. On peak days, up to 14,000 m3 of material was shifted. Our activities include the planning and evaluation of the geotechnical exploration campaign, the performance of static and dynamic analyses under consideration of the transient soil behaviour and the processing of the monitoring concept.
